Gothong wins in Sinulog Classic
AFTER consistently topping the elimination round with a total of 3,531 pinfalls, a slim four-point lead over second-place Clarence Tiu, Junjun Gothong of BTA-Prima won with a 251-point performance in the championship match of the 7th Metro Gaisano Sinulog Classic Open Saturday afternoon at the Gaisano Bowlingplex.
In the odd-even stepladder finals, both Gothong and BTA-bowlmart’s Tiu were waiting for their respective opponents as they were the top finishers before they could face each other again in the final round.
Gothong booted out his uncle Docdoc Gothong in a rousing 228-181 game, while Tiu managed a 13-point margin against Eleazar Rubio’s 224 output to gain entry into the championship round where he eventually succumbed with a meager 201 output to Gothong’s 257 pinfalls.
Meanwhile, Rubio survived a close match-up against Docdoc Gothong in the battle for third. (KIP)
