Bonita tops SM Cetba bowlfest

Although a spring chicken no more, Jun Bonita showed that he remains a master in obliterating bowling pins at the SM City-Cebu Bowling Center Wednesday.

Bonita, a 67-year-old OFW, topped the Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association Wednesday Bowler’s Group International last week by besting a formidable band of younger adversaries in Glenn Palabrica, William Ngo and Boy Gacho.

Bonita registered a tournament-best 918 pinfalls en route to bagging the weekly crown, and took home the event’s P1,000 top cash prize.

Playing with a 140 handicap, Bonita got off to a slow start, bowling just 155 for the first game but made up for it with a fiery streak, bowling 228 and 203 in the next two games to wrest the leadership. He then capped off his winning run with a 192-pinfall performance in the fourth and last game to bag the crown.

Palabrica took home second-place honors despite notching a 200-series feat, logging 208, 220, 200, 215 points in four games, respectively. Palabrica, ended up with 915 points and bagged P900.

Cathy Lee placed third and the corresponding P800 incentive with a series total of 900 pinfalls.

Bonnie Tanchangco (880 pinfalls) copped P700 after nabbing fourth spot by the narrowest of margins over fifth- placer William Ngo, who took home P500 for his 879-pinfall performance. (GCM)
