Who hates Simon Cowell?
By Althea P. Capacio

He’s been called many names – Judge Dread, Mr. Nasty and even O’Simon Bin Laden.

There’s a story going around that he started this talent of his as early as when he was four years old when he uttered an innocent “Mummy, you look like a poodle” to his mom who was wearing a, I-guess, poodle-like hat.

But Simon Cowell has also been called honest and witty. How else can you describe some of the things he said? Like: Do you take singing lessons? Do you have a lawyer? Get a lawyer and sue her.

Other people have praised Simon Cowell’s uncanny ability to pick the next big – no, huge – hits.

Some of the talents he had signed up for BMG were Sonia and Westlife.

Cowell also has his own label, S Records, through BMG. That should tell you something.

Together with a namesake, Simon Fuller, Cowell developed the concept of American Idol first in the UK, under the name Pop Idol.

In the US series American Idol, the series starts with thousands across America auditioning for a chance to be the Idol. Judging them are Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Sometimes there is a guest judge. And it is here in the auditions that Cowell is either loved or hated.

Pro-Simon members of the audience can also visit fan sites to satisfy their curiosity about this 43-year-old Londoner who reportedly never finished high school but is being paid US$2,000,000 for American Idol. (His complete name, by the way, is Simon Phillip Cowell.)

Those who dislike him can visit www. angrysimon.com.

For the undecided, it’s good to remember that this is also a television show? It’s the contrabida that makes the show interesting.

Critics question that if the contestants are obviously that bad, why send them in for the televised audition? (And for 2 million bucks, it can be quite easy to play a villain’s role.) If you want to hate someone, pick the guys who send in the lousy performers to audition.

Or you can join the audition and give Simon a piece of your mind when you meet him.
