Tom to release ‘hunter’ photos

Although it’s not necessary and he’s not obligated to do so, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña promised to give the City Council a list of the crime suppression team members and their photos.

Not obligated

“It’s not necessary but they’re thinking we’re creating a Gestapo here so of course, they can have the names. We’re not obligated to give it to them but they can have it,” he told a news conference yesterday.

During their regular session last Wednesday, the council requested for the names and photos of the members so their identities could be established.

Vice Mayor Michael Rama said that as chairman of the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC), he was not informed of the team’s creation and also does not know the members.

Osmeña also challenged the Gullases to file complaints against him in court if they believe he is to blame for the vigilante-style killings in the city.

Protect city

Unlike the Gullases, Osmeña reiterated he is more concerned about the safety of the Cebuanos than the criminals.

“All I’m complaining about is he owns a school and when a student is stabbed, he gives more importance to criminals than the victim and he is saying that I’m as guilty? So file your case in court. My God, they own a university I’m sure they have a legal office to help him,” he said.

The mayor reacted to former Talisay City Jose Gullas’ statement that “the person who inspires the killings is as guilty as the one who pulls the trigger.”

Free ride

He added that he is trying to protect the students in the city, thousands of whom are enrolled at the Gullas-owned University of the Visayas.

Osmeña said the controversy hounding the crime suppression team and the vigilante-style killings will only stop once the criminals move to Talisay City.

“And when they do, I won’t run after them. I will even give them a free ride on the Kaohsiung bus and once they get there, the Gullases can praise them there but as long as they are in Cebu City, I am responsible for peace and order,” he said. (LCR)
