First World soon to buy products for network security from Cebu

CEBU will soon produce a software product that will address the security problems of the networks of companies worldwide.

According to Infoweap-ons Corp. (IWC) chairman and chief technology officer Lawrence Hughes, the company’s product—Trusted DNS/DHP Server Appliance—will be the first of its kind in the world to be compatible with the IP (Internet Protocol) version 6 configurations, but it will still allow seamless integration with IPv4.

“First World countries, like Japan and those in Europe that are adopting the IPv6, will soon be importing technology developed by Filipino IT specialists from the Philippines,” he told a press conference last Monday at IWC’s office in Keppel Center, Cebu Business Park.

IWC’s product provides DNS and DHCP services to any size of network in a highly secure manner, as it has two GUI administrative interfaces, one via Web and one via a Microsoft Management Console snap-in, according to a statement.

The appliance is based on a hardened version of FreeBSD, a descendant of the Berkeley System Distribution 4.4 version of Unix.

Hughes said IWC plans to export the appliance server initially to Japan and Korea, then to the United States, Canada and Europe.

IWC president and chief executive officer Luis Gopez said the company is targeting large enterprises and government agencies of developed countries due to the high price of the product, which is from $10,000 to $90,000 per box.

The product has numerous security features to detect or prevent attacks by hackers or worms.

Other features of the server appliance include certificate-based strong client authentication of administrator and host-based firewall and intrusion detection.

IWC products and services are based on strong open source technology, which allows the company to develop software at a fraction of the cost of its competitors in Silicon Valley in the US. JBN
