Toral: Blog away
By Janette Toral
Digital Filipino

RIGHT COMMUNITY. I started blogging two years ago using Blogger.com. Through referral, I was able to create another account in LiveJournal.com.

Blogging is where you try to create a journal of your thoughts, insights, learning, articles and the like. The hardest part in blogging is figuring out what you want to write about. Is it meant for personal recording of daily activities or sharing knowledge? Does it matter if it gets read or not?

If getting read matters, becoming part of the right community is important.

This is what I realized, as I noticed that the blogs of the community I joined were focused on rants and raves.

Recently, I thought of putting up my own blogging service. It wasn’t easy to find one that is quick to set up without bothering oneself with the technical details. Last Sunday, I found the solution I wanted with 21Publish.com. I am now putting it to the test to the members of my club who share a fancy for blogging.

21Publish.com allows you to pay according to the number of users. The higher package can cost you $1 per person per month. I guess those that don’t collect fees from their members may find the service impractical. In my case, with membership requiring payment, the solution was quite reasonable.

What I like about it as well is that it allows users to create a photoblog, weblog and moblog (mobile phone blogging). Visit http://digitalfilipino.21 publish.com/janette to get an idea of how I implemented it.

There are only two to three members at this time that have created their blog
accounts. Some have their own already and have a hard time maintaining their blogs in other websites.

Blogging is gradually hitting the mainstream. In a country that fosters freedom of expression, blogs allow you to articulate your thoughts and get insights that are not limited to traditional media.

The academe should utilize the power of blogs to encourage reading and to develop their students’ capability to express themselves.

I was also asked to organize a free bloggers get-together cocktail and convention. Once the details are in, I’ll post them. Should this activity merit your interest and you want to volunteer to share your blogging experience, e-mail me!
