The metrosexuals at X
Men have always been giving special importance to how they look, although largely, secretly.
“By “special,” we mean beyond the usual grooming requirements of the male population. They have started to incorporate style and narcissism in the way they carry their appearance. Instead of going to the barber, men go to beauty salons. Some have refrained from using soap for fear that their skin might be damaged. They become regular visitors in the gym instead of indulging in sports, and even take time to decide what to wear.
Men have also come to make use of their time differently. Aside from going to salons, they are found relishing a prance at the city nightclubs, dropping by boutiques and checking out the latest in men’s fashion.
Metrosexuals are mostly young urban professionals who have the money to spend on stuff like stylish clothes and fashionable accessories.
A few years ago, metrosexuals might be labeled as homosexuals because of their seemingly extraordinary interest in their appearance. But now, whether gay or bisexual, the issue doesn’t quite make a difference anymore.
Metrosexuals just want to pamper themselves with style and pleasure because they want to. Besides, in this day and age, there’s no harm in spoiling oneself and looking good in the process.
In Cebu, Xsalon is now catering to the metrosexual lifestyle. “Xsalon is a good place to ease out and indulge in metrosexual urges. It is a one-stop vanity shop updated with current lifestyles, training, techniques, and technologies geared to provide world-class services. A lot of Cebuano men are now into the metrosexual lifestyle. They come into our place and have their hair and nails done. They’re not gays. I think they are just enjoying what it is to be metrosexual,” said Xsalon general manager Marissa Pestaño.
Xsalon also offers day spa, facial and slimming services. For more inquiries, one may call 416-1818 and 233-9969 or visit the salon at the second floor of NorthGate Center in Banilad.
