Bucket of concrete falls, kills worker
By Jovy S. Taghoy
Sun.Star Staff Reporter.

A 31-YEAR-OLD construction worker died after an iron bucket filled with mixed concrete fell on him early yesterday morning.

Cebu City Police Homicide investigators identified the victim as Julieto Paninsoro, who lived in Barangay Bolinawan, Carcar, Cebu.

Paninsoro was employed as a mason of Dakay Construction and Development Corp., the contractor of a hotel on Kamagong St., Barangay Camputhaw.

The victim’s co-workers, Ernie Tulabing, 23, and Jose Mate, 38, told police that Paninsoro’s death was purely accidental.

Paninsoro was working on the flooring of a parking lot at the second level of the building when the crane operated by Florencio Manguez suddenly slid off, causing the boom that carried the bucket to fall.

The victim, who had severe head injuries, contusions in the body and broken legs, died on the spot.

The investigators who rushed to the construction site found Paninsoro lying on his back. He was not wearing a helmet.

Paninsoro’s body was taken to St. Francis Funeral Homes for autopsy, while Manguez voluntarily turned himself in to the police.

SPO2 Zenaido Pastorfide Pastorfide said a complaint of homicide through reckless imprudence has been prepared against Manguez.

Pastorfide said the Homicide Section is still waiting for Paninsoro’s relatives to confirm if a case should be filed against the crane operator.

The victim’s relatives had initially agreed not to file a complaint, but pending their affidavit of desistance, the crane operator will remain under police custody, Pastorfide said.
