GMA to get Charter Day award but no cash
EXCEPT for SPO1 Adonis Dumpit and two other police officials, the rest of the 18 special awardees for this year’s Charter Day celebration will not be getting any cash incentive.
Even President Arroyo, who is among the awardees for holding her inauguration in Cebu City and for establishing the Malacañang sa Sugbo, will not be getting P50,000.
Mayor Tomas Osmeña earlier said that among the awardees, only five officials from the police, fire department and Sinulog Foundation Inc. will get the cash reward since other private individuals and institutions do not need the money.
Aside from Dumpit, Acting Cebu City Police Office Director Melvin Gayotin, Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau Chief Pablo Labra II, City Fire Department Chief Ysmael Codilla and Sinulog executive director Ricky Ballesteros will receive the P50,000 reward.
During the Charter Day celebration on Feb. 24, Lexmark Philippines Chief Executive Officer Glenn Westerman will be recognized as an adopted son of Cebu.
Undecided
In a news conference yesterday, Osmeña would not confirm if he will push through with his plan to give Perpetual Succour Hospital (PSH) a kalabasa award.
“I don’t know, maybe I’ll also give to Sun.Star or Talisay City or BBRC (Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center) but it’s corny already because we’re always giving it to them,” he said, when asked about the award for PSH.
Osmeña also announced the recipients of special awards, who will include former councilor George Rama, former City Traffic Operations Management chief Valeranio Avila and former city administrator Juan Saul Montecillo.
Recognitions
For giving his services to fire and vehicular accident victims for free, a United States-based cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Carlos Delgado, will also be recognized.
The City of Seattle, Cebuanos Association in Seattle president Asela Ybañez, Filipino-American Civic Employees of Seattle president Vice Pineda and Seattle-Cebu City Sister City Association president Jack Buzzard will also be awarded for donating medical equipment to the City.
Other awardees are University of San Jose Recoletos, nongovernment organization worker Gwen Ngolaban, Aznar Bros. Realty, leaders of two Arnis groups and producers of two Visayan films.
Posthumous awards will also be given to lawyer Arbet Sta. Ana-Yongco, Lahug barangay tanod Alex Dy and former City Budget Officer Jesusa Jayme. (LCR)
