Bacolod ready for another record turnout
The country’s premier amateur golf tournament goes to Bacolod City in the 58th edition of the Philippine Airlines Interclub at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club and at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club.
Dubbed “Go for Gold,” this year’s event has attracted a record number of teams with 74 in the Men’s division and 72 in the Seniors division, surpassing last year’s record of 70 in Cagayan de Oro City.
The Men’s cluster, acknowledged as the national club championship and now on its 58th year, will be held on March 2-5, while the Seniors contest, for players 55-years-old and above and now on its 19th staging, will be played on Feb. 25-27.
Defending champs
Last year, Del Monte topped the Men’s division while Luisita took the Seniors title.
The roster includes a combined 58 international teams in both divisions, including teams from the United States, Canada, Australia, China, Japan, Singapore and Saudi Arabia.
Making their debut in the annual competition are teams from Las Vegas in the Men’s division and the Mindanao State University team in the Seniors group. The teams from Taiwan and British Columbia will also be back for the second year.
The two golf courses are both par-70 layouts and have staged the Interclub in previous years. This will be the 15th time Bacolod hosts the event, which is backed by Airbus, GE Aircraft Engines, Boeing, Mastercard International, Globe Platinum, Joey 92.3, Royal Caribbean International and People Asia, Radio Mindanao Network, Premier Wine & Spirits, Fortune Tobacco and 96.3 WRock.
“We have always enjoyed playing in Bacolod. The warm reception and strong support of our Negrense friends, coupled with the superb condition of the host courses, should make for a successful tournament,” said Interclub chairman Domingo Duerme Jr.(ML)
