Morales doing high mountain training

ERIK Morales is not taking Manny Pacquiao for granted.

This early, the Mexican is leaving no stone unturned as he begins a strenuous six weeks of mountain training in Otomi for their March 19 mega-fight “Bring It On” at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

After doing his rounds in Tijuana, running and doing some conditioning, Morales is going to train in the mountains of Otomi, described as a very cold place north of Mexico City.

Mexico City is about 10,000 feet above sea level and the Otomi Mountains are estimated to be around 2,000 feet over the Mexican capital.

“I’ve been running and doing conditioning work in Tijuana, but now it’s time to step up. I’ll be in the mountains for six weeks,” Morales was quoted by Fightnews.com.

Morales admitted that the Filipino ring hero is not an easy opponent, and he would double the preparation he did when he fought countryman Marco Antonio Barrera last November.

“Pacquiao is dangerous because of his power. I will not underestimate him for one second during our fight,” said the former WBC super-featherweight champion.

Morales’ high-altitude training will include trail running in the morning and sparring sessions and gym work in the afternoon before hitting bed early.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, is doing hard work at the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles under the close watch of Ring Magazine 2003 Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach.

Aside from conditioning, Pacquiao has had some quality sparring sessions with super-featherweight campaigner Raymundo Beltran. (RCM)
