Seares: Mary Ann’s tongue By Cheking Seares News(boy) Sense
First of all, I haven't seen Talisay Prosecutor Mary Ann Castro's tongue, not from afar, surely not up close.
No one caught her on camera when she stuck out her tongue.
Mary Ann was on the witness stand in a Cebu City court testifying on a complaint against a car driver in a traffic incident.
And during trial she stuck out her tongue at lawyer Hector Fernandez, opposing counsel.
I wanted to see that tongue.
Looking at it would have given me some idea why Judge Rosabella Tormis said Mary Ann was guilty of conduct "unbecoming of an officer of the court."
Using the tongue
A Sun.Star report indicated Mary Ann did some tongue-lashing, spewing out "unpleasant and immaterial remarks" while testifying. The tongue-lashing showed she wasn't tongue-tied but was the judge sure it wasn't tongue-in-cheek?
OK, no one sticks out his tongue at anyone in public, in court or not. Childish and offensive, unless the one sticking out and the one stuck at are lovers.
But, Judge Tormis, consider Mary Ann's possibilities as a judge, a job the fiscal has applied for. As judge, MaryAnn can rule with her tongue, instead of saying anything.
Objection sustained? Tongue going up. Overruled? Tongue lowered and staying there. Angry judge? Tongue wagging all over like crazy.
With Mary Ann as the judge, even non-practising lawyers like me might be persuaded to appear in court again.
