USC-SGS claims title over DBTC in Mini division final
Powerhouse University of San Carlos-South Grade School (USC-SGS) reaffirmed its dominance in elementary basketball after beating Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), 47-35, for the 2nd ML Kwarta Padala Cup-Developmental Basketball Tournament Mini-division title at the Cebu Coliseum Sunday.
The University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F), on the other hand, annexed the third-place trophy after getting back at Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHS-J), 54-49.
Awful quarter
The Carolinians jumped to a 17-3 start and used a 33-11 lead at the half to backstop an awful third quarter.
After a 16-8 second quarter blitz, USC-SGS looked headed for a lopsided victory.
But that didn’t happed as the Bosconians’ defense held USC-SGS to an all-time low of one point in the third quarter, while Don Bosco scored 12 points of its own to clip the lead, 23-34, entering the final frame.
Momentum
Carrying the momentum, DBTC cut down the lead to nine with Paracuellas and Cornelio combining for eight Bosconian points against five from USC-SGS’ Jagupit and Cañares.
Paracuelas’ triple came DBTC’s last stand as the USC-SGS went on to take the game.
Meanwhile, Guarisma scored nine of his 17 points in the opening quarter as USP-F hung on to a slim lead throughout to avenge its 39-45 defeat to the Jesuits in the elimination round and take the third place.
