4 brgys get help vs. malnutrition

TO FIGHT malnutrition among children, the Cebu City Government hooked up with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 to hold an extensive feeding program for six months.

Barangays Calamba, Kasambagan, Apas and Cogon Pardo will be the pilot areas for the DSWD-Food for the Hungry supplemental feeding program because of the high incidence of malnutrition in these areas.

The City Council approved last Wednesday four separate resolutions authorizing the mayor to sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with DWSD 7 Director Teodulo Romo for the feeding program.

The feeding of the children ages zero to six years old will run for six months, from the date of the MOA signing. Aside from the regular feeding, the City will also conduct deworming and weigh the children in the four barangays each month.

Councilor Gerardo Carillo, chairman of the council’s committee on social services, said the program aims to help reduce malnutrition in the city, especially in the pilot areas.

The project sites were chosen based on the high incidence of malnutrition and the fact that they got minimal resources or support from the government or non-government organizations. (LCR)
