Smart awards innovators
A 24-hour kiosk that allows Smart subscribers to make cellular phone calls, send text messages and reload airtime bagged the first prize in the 1st Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (Sweep) Innovation and Excellence Awards.
Wesleyan University-Philippines’ entry, “Smart Kiosk,” bested nine other finalists from a field of 61, in the search for the most innovative wireless applications designed by student-faculty teams under Sweep.
In second place was Ateneo de Davao Univer-sity’s “Automatic Reporting System,” which provides parents feedback on their children’s school performance and advises them to pay required student fees.
Third was Ateneo de Manila’s “SmartTrackerTM,” a real-time integrated system that provides security and tour information in one service using GSM via Wireless Tour® and Wireless Observer®.
Wireless Tour® helps campus visitors, seminar participants and freshmen applicants find their way around with the use of IDs embedded with mini transmitters. Wireless Observer® enables teachers to check on students working in the laboratories, especially at night, by accessing the central database through SMS.
The winners were announced over the weekend at SM Megatrade Hall.
