Japanese, 56, found dead

A Japanese national was found dead in his room in Mandaue City Sunday afternoon, a day after he complained of an upset stomach.

Hiroyoshi Saguchi, 56, reportedly experienced loose bowel movement after having breakfast with friends at the Mactan Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday.

Since his arrival from Manila last March 10, Saguchi had been staying with friend Fujio Sasaki and his live-in partner, Meldy Bongansiso, at the JEB Apartelle in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City.

After breakfast at the shrine last March 11, Saguchi complained of stomachache and suffered from loose bowel movement.

Report

The police report stated that Bongansiso, 21, a native of Lapu-Lapu City, offered to take him to the hospital the next day, but Saguchi reportedly turned it down, saying he could still handle the pain.

On Sunday morning, Bongansiso knocked on Saguchi’s door to wake him for breakfast, but nobody answered.

She didn’t bother anymore, thinking Saguchi needed more rest.

By lunch, Bongansiso tried to wake him again but this time, she entered Saguchi’s room to check on him.

She noticed that the Japanese national was no longer breathing.

Remains

Sasaki reported the incident to the Opao Police Station.

Saguchi’s remains now lie at the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapel, where Dr. Alex Uy of the PNP Crime Lab conducted an autopsy.

Autopsy results were not yet available as of yesterday afternoon.

A source said Saguchi’s family is coming to the Philippines to claim his body and bring it back to Japan. (AAG)
