Hiroshi A, B make finals; La Niña wins Ladies title
HIROSHI Football Club made the Cebu International School Friendship Cup its virtual playground after taking both finals spots in the Men’s Open, while La Niña Guerrera took home the Ladies Open crown.
Hiroshi A defeated the Glen Ramos-led University of Cebu, 1-0, in the semifinals, while Hiroshi B survived Don Bosco Alumni FC (DBAFC) in a controversial match, 4-3, via shootout.
Hiroshi was already busy celebrating when the match officials called for a re-kick since Hiroshi’s last kicker did not play in the game.
However, after a few minutes of intense discussion, DBAFC officials decided not to further question the win.
“It would be a case of his word against mine and we didn’t want to drag it. We came here to have fun and play football,” DBAFC’s Neil Montesclaros said.
DBAFC’s 35-Above team earlier took the crown with a 2-0 win over Queen City.
The championship saw both Hiroshi teams playing loosely while doing some risky tackles that had their fans laughing as Team B won over A, 3-1.
Vermonel Resuena scored the opener and Martin Bontia followed suit for a 2-0 lead for Team B in the first half. Flamboyant keeper Ace Mangohig was fielded as a striker in the second half, and Frederick Alazas took his place.
Voltaire Montebon promptly welcomed Mangohig with a hard push from behind that sent Mangohig to the ground. (ML)
