Hotdogs, Shell win
The Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs and the Shell Turbo Chargers gained a share of the second spot in the Gran Matador-PBA Fiesta Conference as they demolished separate foes in yesterday’s double-header at the Yñares Center.
The Turbo Chargers were the first to log a win as they trounced Federal Express, 100-84, in the opening game. The Hotdogs followed suit as they outlasted the Coca-Cola Tigers, 74-69.
The victory put the boys of Shell coach Alfrancis Chua and the wards of Purefoods mentor Allan Gregorio alongside Red Bull and San Miguel at the second spot with 2-1 win-loss slates each, behind solo leader Talk ‘N Text Phone Pals, the only remaining unbeaten team in the conference with an immaculate 2-0 win-loss record.
Noy Castillo once again rescued the Hotdogs from impending disaster as he buried a crucial trey in the final seconds that smothered a pestering short run by the Tigers. Castillo was named Best Player of the Game as he finished the game with 17 points, built around a 3-of-5 shooting from trey-land, and five assists.
Purefoods import Antonio Smith also contributed big for the Hotdogs’ victory as he tallied 17 points and grabbed 23 boards to completely outplay his Tigers counterpart, Jaja Richards, who had another anemic game with just six points to his name. (JSV)
