VATICAN CITY - -Around the world, the faithful lit candles, prayed and reflected on Pope John Paul II’s legacy yesterday, as he neared death. Some worshippers hoped for a dignified end to his suffering.
Pope John Paul II’s condition remained unchanged and “very grave,” and there were moments his consciousness “was compromised,” the Vatican said.
The 84-year-old pope’s health has rapidly deteriorated, with his heart and kidneys failing after he suffered a urinary tract infection.
