Center offering counseling services to youth relaunched
The Cebu Youth Center Inc. (CYC Inc.), which serves as venue for young people to get information and counseling services on various issues and problems, was re-launched last March 5 at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The affair was attended by Mayor Tomas Osmeña, First Lady Margot Osmeña, Councilors Edwin Jagmoc, Arsenio Pacaña, Procopio Fernandez and Gerardo Carillo, and Department of Education (DepEd) City Schools Division Superintendent Leonilo Oliva.
Joy Augustus Young, CYC Inc. president, gave the welcome remarks. The board of trustees and members who were also present were Lourdes Jereza, vice-president; Leo Rama, secretary; Dr. Florencial Miel, treasurer; and members Jay Aldeguer, Sandra Manuel, Ricardo Ballesteros, Hernan Streegan, Councilor Sylvan Jack Jakosalem, and Martiniana Mercado.
Representatives from government and non-government organizations,
socio-civic group and youth sector also attended the event.
During the launching, the CYC Inc. board of trustees took their oath of office.
The city government then turned over a check worth P1.08 million for use in the operations of the center, such as renovation of the office, counseling services, computer and literacy program, and life planning and education program in five selected barangays: Pasil, Calamba, Sawang-Calero, Sambag I and II.
CYC Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit institution established in 1985 to respond to the needs and concerns of young people as well as to develop innovative approaches to the youth.
With the main objective of educating adolescents and young adults on
the various aspects of life planning and health, the center provides information and education, medical and health referrals, and counseling services where young people can spend their time productively.
