UA&P, UC studes win in quizzes

The University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) Business Economics Association (BEA) of the Industrial Economics Program (IEP) reaped several awards in the Junior Philippine Economic Society Inter-School Contest titled “Ecoknowmics” held last Feb. 5 at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST).

The school won first place (second year in a row), third place in the team category and third and sixth place in the individual category.

Other participating universities were the University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University, UP-Los Baños, De La Salle University (DLSU)-Taft,DLSU-Dasmariñas, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Central Luzon State University, San Beda College and UST.

The winning teams were (4th year IEP): UA&P BEA1, first place –Mary Grace Apuyan (class 2001, De La Salle-Zobel), Maria Alyssa Cal (class 2001, valedictorian, Cebu City National Science High School) and Angeline Chang (Philippine Science High School); UA&P BEA 2, third place – Christina Arana (Philippine Science High School), Cherie Lou Dy (valedictorian, Iloilo Central Commercial High School) and Francesca Villareal (Manresa School); third place individual – Christopher Manalac (LaSalle-Greenhills); and sixth place individual – Rafael Hernandez (St. James, Quezon city).

Engineering quiz champ

Meanwhile, the Computer Engineering students of the University of Cebu (UC) emerged as champion in the inter-school Computer Engineering Quiz Bowl held last March 1 at the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT).

UC was represented by graduating BS Computer Engineering students Kenneth Roa and Juanito Mier. Faculty coaches were Engr. Myrth Manlangit and Engr. Al Horteza with college dean, Engr. Virginia de la Cerna.

Dela Cerna also represented the school in an educational observation tour/visit to Bangalore, India last March 6-15. She was with the members of the Cebu Educational Foundation-Information Technology (CEDF-IT).
