Lovers’ suicide pact: woman dies, man critically ill

A seamstress died after she and her live-in partner drank pesticide together at a private cemetery in Ming-lanilla, Cebu last Sunday.

The woman died, but her lover is fighting for his life in the hospital.

Though the police found a suicide note, they still have to investigate further if foul play was involved in the deaths.

Homicide probers are also looking into reports that the man had a sour relationship with the woman’s relatives.

Police said Thelma Paran, 42, who was rushed to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, was declared dead around 4 a.m. yesterday.

“Her relatives already confirmed to us her death,” said SPO4 Domeciano Sabellano, of the Mingla-nilla Police Station.

Her live-in partner, Jose Soroño, 30, a local water utility employee, was still in critical condition in the Cebu Doctor’s Hospital as of press time.

The two allegedly drank the pesticide at the Sanctuary Memorial Park in Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Cala-joan, Minglanilla town.

A report said they entered through the ceme-tery’s back entrance, hence, they were not seen by the front gate guard.

A certain Jaime Gadiane, who happened to pass by the area around 6 a.m., spotted the two lying on a grassy lot, their mouths frothing.
Gadiane quickly told SPO1 Edgar Belesco of the Minglanilla Police Station about what he found.

A police team recovered at the scene two empty bottles of pesticide and a handwritten suicide note addressed to Sarah, Jean and Victor.

Police didn’t say what kind of pesticide the couple drank. They also have yet to determine who the three people were.

Lawmen also recovered the duo’s personal belongings, such as a wallet bearing Soroño’s IDs and a P20 bill, two wristwatches of Paran and her IDs. (GC)
