Sisos move on to next round in Manila
FIVE Cebuano netters entered the second round of the Tru Flex National Tennis Tournament yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Courts.
Ten-year-old phenomenon Sally Mae Siso of the University of San Carlos (USC) Grade School, the country’s top-ranked player in her division, drubbed Joan Pena of Manila, 6-1, 6-0, in the preliminary round of the Girls 12-Under division.
Another Siso, Bernardine “Nino” and his Team Cebu City-Tennis teammates Kristel Mae Buencanosa and siblings Julian and Jacob Lagman also bagged second-round tickets by posting separate victories yesterday.
Buencanosa, also playing for USC Grade School, pulled off a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Danielle Ballare of Zambales in the Girls 14-Under.
Jacob Lagman, a whiz kid from St. Benedict’s Learning Center, thrashed Ronnel Santiago of Manila, 6-2, 6-0. His brother Julian followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 conquest of Jose Antonio Bautista.
The Siso siblings, both sponsored by Osaka Iridology and Dunlop, are scheduled to take on formidable foes in today’s second round. Sally Mae is set face off against Jasmine Tan Ho while Bernardine Nino is set to tangle with Tim Polero. (GCM)
