Business group to help firms get expert advice

THE Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has been designated as the representative in Cebu for small and medium enterprise development under the Netherlands Management Cooperation Program, now called PUM (Programma Uitzending Managers).

The country representative from the Netherlands for the senior expert management program Tom Hens will meet CCCI members on April 11 for a briefing on how to access the valuable services of their company.

The chamber has been helping Cebu business access technical assistance, improve business operations and become globally competitive.

PUM’s objectives, through the chamber, is to assist companies in various aspects of management and business operations in the manufacturing, water and energy, transport and logistics, education, infrastructure and engineering, accounting, human resources, health care, agriculture, food, retail and wholesale trade, information technology and tourism sectors, among others.

PUM primarily aims to improve the business climate in developing countries with a view to creating jobs and increasing incomes of the local population.
PUM Netherlands is an independent “job agency” for professional volunteers.

It is composed of people who have made their mark in practically every walk of economic and public life.

They work in regions where the level of development and the cultures are highly diverse.

Many of the PUM experts have made a significant contribution to the development of the companies and organizations they worked for in the course of their careers. These Dutch experts now provide their services on a voluntary basis free of charge. They want to help establish a healthy social market economy in the countries they are sent to on missions.

The companies receive this assistance without having to pay the hefty fees commonly charged for this type of expertise.

There are 4,000 senior experts registered with the PUM program.

The PUM program is financed by the Dutch government, the European Union, the largest Dutch employers’ organization VNO-NCW and international organizations like the United Nations.

PUM also specializes in creating more jobs and encouraging the use of environmental-friendly production techniques.

In the Philippines, PUM is active in the printing, agriculture and metal industries, where it accomplished about 16 projects in 2004.
