GMA premieres ‘Pinoy Abroad’
To date, there are around eight million Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) abroad whose remittances reached a record-high of US$8.5 billion last year.
Surprisingly, even with these significant statistics, there has been no program that has successfully and consistently addressed the concerns of the country’s “new heroes.”
Enter GMA News and Public Affairs’ newest show, Pinoy Abroad, the ultimate survival guide for OFWs, soon-to-be OFWs, and their families here in the Philippines.
Premiering last April 6, Pinoy Abroad will not only feature interesting and relevant information about the country being visited – its native dishes, common modes of transportation, tourist spots, language, culture, customs, religion and history – but also vital and helpful knowledge for every OFW, such as where the Philippine Embassy is located, the laws they should be most mindful of, their rights, popular jobs, common problems in the workplace and current issues involving Filipinos.
Hosted by GMA News and Public Affairs’ young anchors and now the newest jetsetters Rhea Santos and Ivan Mayrina, Pinoy Abroad promises to deliver fresh OFW updates each week.
OFWs will also get to share their experiences as Filipinos working abroad and will be given the chance to communicate with their families in the Philippines.
Requirements for overseas jobs will also be mentioned which will serve as an additional perk for viewers who are aspiring to work overseas.
The show, which replaces the highly successful Jessica Soho Reports, will air every Wednesday after Saksi on GMA-7.
