CIE to offer courses of American Management Assn.

CENTER for International Excellence (CIE) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), Imperial Consulting and American Management Association (AMA) to offer AMA’s short-term business management courses starting June.

AMA is a global association that provides a full range of management development and educational services to individuals, companies and government agencies worldwide.

“We are launching our venture here in Cebu with the American Management Association to bring business education in the Philippines. We are also honored to announce our partnership with CIE,” said Henry Schumacher, executive vice president of the ECCP, during the MOA signing Friday at Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort.

“These sales studies and other management short-term courses are tailored to be a continuing professional education,” giving chief executive officers, leaders and managers the opportunity to improve, said Nelia Cruz Sarcol, founder and president of CIE.

“It has always been our school’s calling to make great leaders and business-minded graduates,” she said.

In CIE, high school students are already given subjects on entrepreneurship. Information technology education and business management are two programs offered in CIE.

During an executive forum after the MOA signing, AMA general manager for the Asia Pacific Dr. Wolfgang Lux emphasized the importance of bringing out the best in every leader and how a company’s growth depends on good leadership.

Toyota

“Products can be imitated. Pricing can be beaten. But nothing can replace the importance of great leadership. It sustains the company. In the automotive industry, for example, Toyota has been a successful company all these years not because they have a secret formula, but because they have consistent leadership,” said Lux.

Lux added that effective communication skills are very important in conquering personal and cultural differences in any company. “We have to teach ourselves to speak up and be sensitive with one another. That is the key,” he said.

Europe

ECCP aims to foster close economic ties and business relations between the Philippines and Europe by providing a wide range of business services and creating linkages between companies, organizations and individuals with existing or potential business interests in Europe and the Philippines.

Thirteen years now in Cebu, ECCP’s Schumacher said: “I see a vibrant market here in Cebu. Furniture export has been profitable. Cebu is good in design and quality. That is very important.” ALC
