Weeks after fight, Rey’s foe still in pain
WEEKS have passed since WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion ALA Boy Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista punished Aree Phosuwangym, but the Thai is still in agony from the Boholano’s vicious punches.
According to WBO Asia-Pacific president Leon Panoncillo, Aree, whom Bautista kayoed last March 11 in Honolulu, Hawaii, has been finding it difficult to open his mouth, suggesting it could be broken.
An uppercut to the jaw and a seamless left hook decked the veteran muay Thai fighter. It took the medical staff more than five minutes to revive him.
The 18-year-old from Candijay, Bohol became an instant celebrity in Hawaii after the fight, prompting the promoters, brothers Richard and Bobby Villaver, to hatch another Bautista fight against a Korean, who also has a large following there.
The Carcar-native Villavers, who arrived in Cebu Tuesday, are negotiating with Bautista’s handler, Antonio Aldeguer, for the whirlwind ALA Boy to fight again in Honolulu on July 7. RCM
