27 cops lose several days’ salary for going Awol, sleeping on the job
TWENTY-SEVEN police officers in Cebu Province will forfeit several days of their salary after they were found to be either sleeping on the job, absent without official leave, or not in proper uniform despite being on red alert status.
Of the 27 found liable for neglect of duty, five of them were police station chiefs.
The sanction was meted on the 27 after Acting Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Chief Vicente Loot approved the recommendations of the Provincial Intelligence and Investigation Branch (PIIB) yesterday.
The PIIB was tasked to investigate 78 police officers who were caught committing administrative lapses by an inspection team sent by Loot last March 19.
Of the 78, the 29 will receive a reprimand while 19 were absolved of any liability after investigators accepted their excuses.
PIIB Chief Audie Villacin told reporters that in the past, such administrative lapses were sent to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 to resolve.
At Loot’s level
“Now, (Supt. Loot) has decided to handle things at his level,” Villacin said.
Chief Insp. Francisco Comahig (Sibonga), Insp. David Villanueva (Santander), Insp. Jaime Caballero (Ronda), Insp. Efren delos Santos (Boljoon) and SPO4 Daniel Comision (Ginatilan) were the station commanders meted forfeiture of five days’ salary.
Comahig, Villanueva and Comision failed to submit their written reply for being absent from their posts during the inspection.
Also meted the same penalty was SPO3 Valerio Villahermosa of the Dalaguete Police Station for his failure to submit his explanation after 72 hours.
Caballero claimed he went to Guihulngan, Negros Oriental to attend a burial, but the PIIB said he did not get an official approval to leave Cebu.
Delos Reyes, for his part, said he attended his son’s graduation ceremony in Cebu City, but the PIIB found his reason “devoid of merit.”
SPO2 Narciso Ysao and PO3 Allan Kintanar of the Oslob Police Station and SPO1 Edgardo Felices of the Boljoon Police Station will also lose five days’ salary after inspectors caught them sleeping on the job and took pictures of them as proof.
SPO1 Abel delos Santos, SPO1 Wilmer Sayson and SPO1 Raymund Sala from Dumanjug, SPO1 Roberto Dalocanog, SPO1 Bertoldo Mansueto and SPO1 Gaudencio Capag from Ronda, SPO2 Jesus Ascencion and SPO1 Pelayo Templado from Alcantara, and SPO1 Felixberto Piedra from Ginatilan were stripped of three days’ salary for being absent without official leave.
The same goes for SPO1 Manuel Regulacion (Santander), SPO1 Antonio Resquites (Oslob), SPO2 Reynaldo Rubia (Argao), PO3 Dario Gabac (Sibonga), PO3 Ernesto Villamor and PO3 Nicomedes Aliñabon (Boljoon), PO3 Agustin Romanos and PO3 Eduardo Santander (Alcoy) and PO1 Fortunato Mamac (Moalboal).
The PIIB found their reasons for being absent “self-serving” and that they lacked proof to substantiate their claims. (MEA)
