Summary killings take another victim
A suspected thief, who has been coming in and out of jail, was gunned down while watching a betting game last Sunday night in what appeared to be another case of a vigilante-style killing in Cebu City.
The victim was identified as Erwin Arquillano, 33, of 95-D Katipunan St., Barangay Labangon.
Police investigators said Arquillano sustained gunshot wounds in the right portion of the neck, right side of his chest, and right thigh. He also had three gunshot wounds in the back.
Arquillano’s body was found sprawled in a dimly lit interior portion of Sitio Kamangahan, Labangon at 10:45 p.m., Sunday.
The Cebu City Police Homicide Section investigators, led by SPO2 Jay Yballe, recovered one slug of unknown caliber near the body of Arquillano.
Some people in the area told investigators that the lone gunman was wearing a cap and covered his face with a cloth. He was wearing a white T-shirt and a pair of dark pants.
No one so far was willing to stand as witness in the killing.
Initial investigation showed that prior to the incident, Arquillano was watching a coin game locally known as “hantak” when the gunman arrived and approached the victim and shot him several times.
Despite his wounds, Arquillano managed to run away, but the gunman gave chase and continued shooting at him until they reached an alley leading to the area where the victim’s body was found minutes later.
Arquillano was taken to San Fernando Funeral Homes for autopsy.
Random interviews conducted by investigators revealed that Arquillano have been jailed at the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center several times for theft cases filed against him. (JST)
