2 brods bludgeon employer to death By Garry Cabotaje Sun.Star Staff Reporter
FED up with being frequently scolded, two workers bludgeoned their employer to death while he was fixing his truck in his warehouse in Barangay Ylaya, Talamban, Cebu City Monday night.
Brothers Pio and Randy Rayala also allegedly robbed softdrinks distributor Felicisimo Balankig of at least P17,000 cash and fled with the victim’s car, with his body on board.
But before the Rayalas could go far, policemen caught up with them at a gasoline station in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City and found Balankig’s bloodied remains inside the baggage compartment past 10 p.m.
At the Talamban Police Station, the Rayala brothers claimed they lost their patience because Balankig always reprimanded them.
Pipe
After getting scolded again last Monday, Randy, 23, hit the back of the businessman’s head with a 27-inch-long pipe, police said.
The businessman got angry with the two because the delivery truck, driven by Randy, ran out of battery.
“Naguba daw ang alternator, mao tong nasuko kuno ang tag-iya (The alternator won’t work, which angered the businessman),” said PO3 Bobby Escarlan, one of the responding homicide policemen.
Escarlan said Balankig of Sunny Hills, Talamban, is a distributor of Cosmos Bottling Corp. products such as Jazz Cola and Sparkle softdrinks.
The Rayala brothers worked for Balankig as delivery truck driver and truck boy for less than a month yet.
Witnesses
After allegedly scolding the two, Balankig then told them to go home.
That was when Randy grabbed a steel pipe and struck the head of Balankig who was still fixing the truck’s engine.
The two took the unconscious victim to the secluded portion of the warehouse, where they finished him off.
The suspects then dragged him to the baggage compartment of the Nissan Sentra and commandeered the car towards Mandaue City.
But two of Balankig’s other workers — Ariel Armoin and Ruben Gabutero — saw the whole incident, Escarlan said.
The two witnesses immediately alerted the Talamban police station right after the suspects had left.
Responding Talamban policemen spotted the car being refueled at a gasoline station in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City.
Lawmen collared the two and recovered from them P17,637 believed to be softdrinks proceeds.
At press time, they were detained at the Talamban Police station.
The Cebu City Police Homicide Section was set to file a case of robbery with homicide against them before the City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday. (GC)
