City hires 45 honor graduates

CEBU City officials are hopeful the delivery of public services will improve after they completed the hiring of “the best and the brightest” to fill up middle management posts at City Hall.

Some 45 cum laude and magna cum laude graduates from different fields were hired and oriented yesterday.

They were also given their appointments, except for four others who will be given consultancy contracts, after appearing before the City Council.

City Administrator Francisco Fernandez said yesterday the newly hired employees will be grouped together for their training and assignments in different City Hall departments.

They will also be given a chance to choose their assignments, but their qualifications and field of expertise will have to be considered, said Rene Sanapo, the mayor’s consultant on Geographic Information Systems.

“Mga ngilngig gyud kaayo ni nga grupo (This is an exceptional group). We are hoping they will bring in excellence in governance and that they will give life and dignity to public service, which is the thrust of the mayor’s administration,” he told Sun.Star Cebu.

The employees will receive a starting monthly pay of P10,535, although four of them who already have experience will receive a slightly higher pay.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña facilitated the orientation of the new employees at the Eduardo Aboitiz Study Center yesterday, where he talked about concepts in management and leadership, governance and service improvement.

By hiring only the best and the brightest, Osmeña hopes to strengthen the middle management staff at the City Hall.

After their three-week training, the employees will be required to make a case study where they will study, document, analyze and look for improvements in the delivery of basic services, which they will present to City Hall officials. (LCR)
