Investors eye Cebu
THE Department of Tourism (DOT) is confident that Cebu will be able to meet the increasing demand for hotel and resort rooms.
“There are foreign investors wanting to come over. They have been inquiring about Cebu. At the same time, I know of some local investors who are also interested to invest in resorts,” said DOT Regional Director Patria Aurora Roa in a press conference last Thursday.
With its tight room supply, Roa said Cebu is currently not ready to accommodate budget airlines.
Skal International-Cebu president Charles Lim earlier said the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, like Clark airport authorities, should lower its landing fees to entice budget airlines to come to Cebu.
Roa explained that Clark invited budget airlines because it didn’t have international airlines yet.
“But Cebu already has international airlines. It would also be difficult for MCIAA to lower its landing fees because it will be unfair to existing international airlines,” she said. JBN
