Sis team

It takes friendship to tango. Diadema V. Emping finds out during a morning talk. Photographed by Amper Campaña

That good friends need not always be together could never be truer than with Gelli de Belen and Carmina Villaroel, now both in GMA 7's morning talk show, SIS.

Before being together in this show, both didn't have much time for each other because of conflicting schedules. However, "We always keep in touch. Once in a while, we see each other. 'Yung friendship namin di naman kailangan na palagi kaming nagkikita."

What makes them tick...
Their 16-year old friendship made them very comfortable with each other, not to mention frank.
"Never kaming nag-away, pero inisan, oo!" says Carmina in between a pause and laughter. "Alam niya kasi kung pa'no ako i-handle. Minsan sasabihin niya sa 'kin, 'Alam mo nakakainis ka!' pero di naman ako nagagalit kasi baka nakakainis naman talaga ako."

And what's the most important ingredient in their friendship?
"Respeto!" they both instantly remarked.
"She's my truest friend. Never kaming nagkaroon ng inggitan considering we're in the same business. At tsaka tanggap niya kasi ako eh," expresses Gelli. "And meant to be friends na talaga kami ni Mina. Palagi kaming pinagtagpo ng tadhana. Palagi kaming may shows together."

On Carmina's love life...
Zoren Legazpi, the father of Carmina's twins, is the reason for her happiness. In fact "close to perfection" is how she describes their relationship.
However, when it comes to marriage, Carmina keeps it at bay. "Yung pagpapakasal parang sa papel na lang yun eh. Para sa amin mag-asawa na kami. Eventually we'll get there. Iniu-una lang namin ang bahay magastos kasi." (Laughs)
According to Gelli, if some girls dream of their wedding, for Carmina it's her house. It's her childhood dream.

SIS forever...
"Palitan yung name na SIS? Dahil hindi namin kapatid si Mina?" was Gelli's spontaneous remark when asked if the network has a plan to change the name of their program knowing that the name was coined when Gelli and Janice were the only hosts of the show then. "Para ko na talagang kapatid si Mina. And if I were to have a sister, si Mina na yun."

And now that they are in one show already...
"It's fun! It's fun!" exclaims Carmina. Their interaction in SIS is very natural she says. "Ako kasi, comfortable na ako sa kanila. Wala na yung kailangan nangangapa ka pa o kailangan maging close tayo kunyari ha para magmukha sa screen na ganun... Never kaming nag-pretend."
"What you see is what you get. And SIS is the best bonding we've ever had!" Gelli says. Their show is "Fun. Warm. Spontaneous. Entertaining na walang ka effort-effort."

On network wars...
The battle is on. There's no stopping them. The war has long been declared and the battlefield's... the boob tube! ABS-CBN and GMA 7 being the country's two giant networks are in intense competition, each claiming to be the number one.
For Gelli and Carmina, the rivalry is good. "Somehow it's also to our own advantage kasi mas napapaganda yung trabaho namin. Mas may challenge especially sa mga nanonood coz they get a better deal kasi lahat kami working double time. We're always on our toes wanting to give whatever they [audience] want."
