Boy, 17, kills teacher, accuses him of abuse

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy stabbed dead a high school teacher whom he accused of sexually abusing him in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Mabolo and Homicide Section policemen found Joseph Aniñon Tapayan, 37, lying on his back inside the living room of his house at 3 a.m. yesterday.

Tapayan, who lived at 1193 Gil Tudtud St., Sitio Estacionan, Barangay Mabolo, was a high school teacher in Barangay Opao, Mandaue City.

He bore at least 15 stab wounds. There were no signs of struggle or theft in the crime scene.

In a hot pursuit operation, Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) policemen, led by SPO3 Isagani Pugoy, arrested primary suspect Miguel (real name withheld) and his 17-year-old cousin in their aunt’s house in Talisay City at around 10 a.m.

The cousin is being held as an accomplice to the crime.

SPO3 Zenaido Pastorfide Jr., who led the homicide team, eyed robbery as motive. Tapayan’s brother Joel claimed that the victim’s high-end cellular phone was not found in the house.

But personnel from the PNP Crime Laboratory, led by SPO3 Virgilio Bagasala, found Tapayan still wearing his wristwatch. His wallet still had some P5,000 cash and was found inside an oven toaster placed on top of the dining table.

Tapayan had only his underwear on and his face was covered with a shirt.

Pastorfide said there was no indication that Tapayan struggled against his attacker. There was also no sign of a break in.

Miguel, interviewed by reporters inside the stockade of the Cebu City Police Office, admitted killing Tapayan out of rage for allegedly sexually assaulting him.

Miguel narrated that at 11 p.m. Saturday, he met Tapayan through friends while they were hanging out in a basketball court.

Miguel, a native of Butuan City, lives in his aunt’s house, also on Gil Tudtud St.

After a brief conversation, Tapayan invited him and two other friends for some bottles of beer in the teacher’s house, Miguel said.

After drinking eight bottles of beer, his friends decided to go home. He wanted to go with them but Tapayan asked him to stay so they’d know each other more. Miguel agreed.

Miguel said he didn’t know what happened next because he was already drunk and had fallen asleep. When he woke up, he was naked and Tapayan was lying beside him with only his underwear on.

He immediately put his clothes on and went to his cousin to tell him about the incident.

Miguel and his cousin went back to Tapayan’s house and killed him using a kitchen knife. Miguel said he was the only one who stabbed Tapa-yan. His cousin did not participate in the killing.

SPO3 Pugoy said they recovered the knife after Miguel led them to a ditch where the teenager had thrown the weapon.

Pugoy, who lives in Mabolo, said they found Miguel and his cousin in their aunt’s house in Sitio Oregona, Barangay Lower Mohon, Talisay City.

The two gave themselves up peacefully. JST
