Mactan airport’s acting chief of police found dead in room

THE acting chief of police at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport was found dead inside his room at the staff house in Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning.

Homicide investigators however believe that Pedro Sanchez, 55, died of natural causes.

Staff house personnel told homicide investigator SPO2 Rolito Jumao-as that when Sanchez still didn’t come out of his room by 11 a.m., they decided to force it open.

That was when they found his body already dark and stiff.

They believe the official died hours earlier but that couldn’t be determined until after the autopsy since Sanchez didn’t have a roommate.

Responding police investigators, for their part, did not find any signs of attack or struggle inside the room.

Airport police corporal Francisco Melicor said Sanchez, who was also manager of the Emergency Security Services Department, replaced Rodante de Joya, a retired brigadier general, as acting head of the airport police.

Sanchez assumed his post two weeks after airport authority general manager Adelberto Yap was sworn in last Feb. 18.

Sanchez, who stood 5’8” and was of heavy built, had a history of hypertension.

His family lives in Pampanga. OCP
