Youths told to avoid smoking, alcohol and sex

A YOUTH group dares to be different in a generation where smoking, drinking and pre-marital sex are the norm: it wants to stay “100% pure.”

The Youth For Christ (YFC), the youth arm of the religious organization Couples for Christ, launched yesterday its 100% Pure campaign in the Visayas.

Over 70 YFC leaders from the three Visayas regions gathered for a seminar and workshop at the Ecotech Center in Lahug, Cebu City.

Still in touch with this generation’s penchant for parties, the YFC organized a party last night at the Ecotech pavilion with over a thousand guests, both YFC members and non-members.

But unlike most parties, the YFC party was held in line with its goals. There was no smoking and drinking. Instead, partygoers were treated to inspirational videos.

“Documentaries of transformations which would give hope to the youth of today,” YFC leader Lyle dela Peña described the videos.

In a ceremony after the party, the young people vowed to stay pure in mind, body and heart. Covenant cards and “100% Pure” baller bands were distributed.

“We do recognize that the youth’s lifestyle has immensely changed. Virginity is an embarrassment nowadays. This program aims to promote to the youth to be the difference in the society and be proud to be 100% pure, ” dela Peña said. JGA
