Mactan Coral Golf, CVCB eye double success in fun golf
The Fiesta Islands Fun Golf Tournament (FIFGT) is ready to create another spectacle of tee-offs and gimmicks at this time of the year.
This was what the Mactan Coral Golf Club (MCGC) and the Cebu Visitors and Convention Bureau (CVCB) said after mapping out a clear program for the 2nd FIFGT slated on May 28 at the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base in Lapu-Lapu city.
“Sports tourism is one of our focused programs in CVCB. This alone is continuously inspiring us to move ahead. CVCB pursues to get on the league of sports marketing and create a strong impact as far as doing creative concepts of tourism-related events is concerned. Fun golf is in line with our sports tourism thrust. It is one of the many, in fact. Sooner or later, Cebu will highly be recognized as the best venue for all these international sports competitions,” CVCB chairman and Waterfront Hotels and Casinos president Patrick Gregorio said.
Both MCGC and CVCB are confidently seeing a double success in this sequel to the one held in May 2004.
“While the expert golfers and even neophytes play golf seriously, we will incorporate some fun-filled segments to make this event a must-see and exciting one. There’s a food festival and a night market at the venue, wine sampling, brass brand and more,” announced 2nd FIFGT chairman Maj. Gen. Jaime Viernes of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Reaching out to niche markets
Viernes added that the event aims to provide more opportunities for sponsoring entities to be able to reach out to their niche markets.
Event manager Bernadette Jingco said tickets are tagged at P2,000 each with two sets of playing dates: May 28 and 29 with tee-off time at 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at 5:30 a.m. to 12 noon, respectively.
Aside from Gregorio and Viernes, also attending the tee-off are Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ace Durano, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza, Nissan Motors president Peter Yap, and 2nd FIFGT project director Efren Belarmino, general manager of Plantation Bay Resort and Spa.
A Nissan X-trail car and a 1.3L Sedan unit are at stake as prizes for Hole 4 and Hole 6, respectively.
Prior to the main event, a weeklong booth caravan and food street will take place from May 23-29. The Golfer’s Fellowship Night is set on May 28 (tickets at P250). The awards night will be held at the Budyong Hall of the Casino Filipino-Mactan.
