Durano: Disqualify Dosado, Tuadles
By Grecar Nilles

Congressional candidate Ramon “Red” Durano VI wants his two opponents in the special polls in Cebu’s fifth district declared as nuisance candidates, saying they do not have the machinery to put up a good fight.

In a petition filed with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) last Monday, Durano said the political history of Dean Severo Dosado and Wilfredo Tuadles showed they are only running to make a mockery of the election process.

“Both Dosado and Tuadles do not have their own political machineries to launch an honest-to-goodness campaign in all the 11 municipalities and the City of Danao comprising the fifth congressional district of Cebu. This is demonstrated by the fact that both respondents ran during the previous elections, but miserably lost,” the petition read.

Both Tuadles and Dosado, former Sogod vice mayor, could not be reached for comment.

The Comelec set a special election in the fifth district on May 30 after Joseph “Ace” Durano, who won the race in the 2004 elections, was named tourism secretary.

Red, in his petition, also claimed that at this time in the campaign period, Tuadles and Dosado have not made public consultations or distributed campaign materials in the district, and there is no known political figure or groups that endorsed their candidacy.

Previous candidacies

Tuadles ran but lost when he sought a Provincial Board seat last May 2001 and in the gubernatorial race last May 2004.

Dosado, on the other hand, lost in May 2001 and May 2004 when he ran for mayor of Sogod, Cebu. He also reportedly lost when he ran as barangay captain.

“In all these political exercises that both respondents have participated in, they failed to obtain enough votes owing principally to their lack of political machinery, mass base and logistical support,” Red said in his petition.

If Dosado is not declared a nuisance candidate, Red asked the Comelec to declare Dosado an independent candidate, not as a candidate nominated by a political party.

Red said Dosado’s faxed nomination by the Partido ng Masang Pilipino is not a genuine document, which should be considered as a mere scrap of paper that does not have any value.
