McDo's outlets hit P1M on opening day
ALL McDonald's restaurants that have opened in new markets nationwide in the past six months hit the P1-million mark in sales on opening day, an internal company audit showed.
These are the new stores operated by franchisees that opened in Zamboanga City last Feb. 28, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur last December, in Ozamiz City last November and in General Santos City last Oct. 1, disclosed Zonito Torrevillas, press relations/ communications manager of McDonald's Philippines.
The Zamboanga store nearly matched the P1.2 million mark set by the store in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, while the restaurants in the Socsksargen region and Misamis Occidental also hit the P1-million mark on Day 1, McDonald's said.
"Our kapwa Zamboangeños have been very eager about the entry of McDonald's," noted Mary Joy Tan, the Zamboanga franchisee of the popular fast-food chain.
The first McDonald's restaurant in Zamboanga is a franchise owned by the Aleson Shipping Group, whose prime movers have committed to do business with a social conscience through Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).
The Tan family committed P1 from every sale of the popular Burger McDo to a special fund that will build "Bahay Bulilit" day care centers in the city.
The first will soon be built in Barangay Santa Maria, while seven other barangays have been identified by the local Department of Social Welfare and Development and the City Mayor's office.
Normally, McDonald's allocates 50 centavos from every Happy Meal to the nationwide fund for RMHC. But Tan personally committed more than that, specifically for "Bahay Bulilit," because it is a project she is pursuing as a member of the Jambangan chapter of Junior Chamber International -Philippines.
The "Bahay Bulilit" project is being pursued with the collaboration of the Zamboanga chapter of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas. PR
