5 Visayas college studes named Bayer envoys
Five college students were conferred the title of 2005 Bayer Young Environmental Envoys (BYEE) for Visayas during the regional semi-finals held at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel (CCMH) last April 30.
They are Gerard Dumancas (University of the Philippines Visayas), Tristan Kirby Nabong (University of the Philippines Cebu), Ma. Krizia Ledesma (St. Paul University, Iloilo), Ivan Lester Ayson (University of San Carlos, Cebu), and Jo-Dann Darong (Foundation University, Negros Oriental).
The five young envoys will attend an eco-camp in Lagos del Sol Resort on May 21-25 together with the winning envoys from Luzon and Mindanao. They will have the opportunity to learn from distinguished speakers from the government, business, media, the private sector, and the United Nations who will talk about what their respective sectors are doing for the environment. They will also have an ecological tour of forest, water, and land resources to give them practical exposure on the beauty of nature and the value of preserving the environment.
From among these envoys, five will be chosen to go on a weeklong, all-expense paid trip to Germany to observe environmentally-sound practices in a highly-developed country. They will be joining their student counterparts from Thailand, India, Singapore, China, Latin America, Poland, and Indonesia on the field trip to Germany.
Three others will be named representatives to the Eco-Minds Forum where young delegates from nine Asia Pacific countries will converge in Manila by the end of October to attend an international Forum on Sustainable Development. The Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Program (BYEE) seeks to educate the youth on the global efforts to save and protect the environment, and is a flagship initiative of Bayer and the United Nations Environment Program's (Unep) global partnership for youth environmental projects.
The Eco-Minds Program, also a Bayer-Unep partnership, seeks to combine science and environmental principles with socio-economic and cultural factors to find solutions to the problems facing humanity.
