Congratulations are in order for our dear friend Karl Hudson, general manager of the Cebu City Marriott Hotel, for getting the Marriott International 2004 Leadership Excellence Award during the recent Marriott International Global General Managers Conference in Orlando, Florida. Yes, Karl put Cebu city in the limelight when he collected his award because it was then that most of the Marriott GMs became aware of a place called Cebu.
Karl is not resting on his laurels and continues to come up with innovative ideas. Together with executive chef Robert Lilja, he has initiated "healthy eating" items on the menu of Garden Cafe.

A warm welcome to Albert Ng, the new manager of Qatar Airways in Cebu, and our good wishes to outgoing manager Richie Tuaño who is bound for Doha. Both were honorees at a lunch get-together hosted by Paquito and Zenaida Chua of Worldwide Travel at Casino Español.
Albert, a Singaporean, is adapting quite well to Cebu and buckling down to work. Lots of luck, Albert!

Athena Ever Engracia, the lovely and talented daughter of Dr. Warfe Engracia and the former Elaine Pedrosa, was formally introduced to adult society during a formal dinner affair at the Baseline Ballroom. As expected, music was very much part of the celebration with Cebu's most popular singing doctor, who happens to be the debutante's dad, taking the lead. Doc Warfe with Eddie Dakay on the piano wowed his audience once again.
Angel-faced Athena has an angelic voice to match and is definitely a chip off the old block. She hushed the guests with her rendition of religious songs. Mom Elaine accompanied her on the piano.

First Quadrant president and CEO Rhodora "Doyee" Tactacan Tumpalan came to town "to break bread" with the Cebu press at Casino Español. She was in her element talking about the multi-level marketing company she founded a few years back which is now in Cebu. The display room is at the 2nd floor of Mercury Drug in Fuente Osmeña. FQ is committed to promote Philippine-made products, Doyee proudly announced.

From Cebuano-in-California George Sanchez comes the news that son Donald, the only Cebu-born member of the US Navy medical team supporting the Camp Pendleton US Marines in Iraq, is finally back home in Pico Rivera to the great relief of Mom Ching. Donald was in the insurgent-held city of Fallujah and in Najaf where the action was.
On the other hand, Donald's sister Georgette is now a California registered Dialysis technician at the University of California-Irvine Medical Center. George and Ching are mighty proud of their offsprings. Youngest daughter Gwen is the only one in school.
