TEAM Cebu City’s campaign in the Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia started in an auspicious note as veteran Fraulien Coran produced the first medal for the Philippines with a bronze in taekwondo.

“It’s a good start. I am confident that we can reap more medals in the coming days. The kids have prepared hard for this campaign,” said Cebu City Sports Commission chairman Jonathan Guardo, who witnessed first hand Coran’s medal fight.
Coran won her first game against Ester Masalium of Malaysia, 10-3. She lost her succeeding fight to a much-taller Shu-chun Yong of Chinese Taipie, 8-0. In her third fight, she won over Lau Chin chin of Malaysia, 5-2, bafore losing to Malaysia’s Veronieta Antau.
“I would have preferred to bring more jins here but Fraulein is our only strong bet. I am very proud of her,” said TCC taekwondo director Rene Brojan.
Frauline Coran is a nursing student from the Cebu Institute of Technology.
In Men’s lawn tennis, Lourelou Alburo won a lopsided match over Abdulah Rashed of Brunie, 6-2, 6-0.
