Fitrum gets back at Hiroshi, becomes Group B leader

FITRUM Green Tea Extract avenged its shutout defeat against early tormentor Hiroshi Softball Club with a 6-4 thriller to steal Group B’s No.1 spot from its victim at the end of the elimination round of the Osaka Iridology-1st Cebu Men’s Open softball at Labangon Elementary School yesterday.

The San Vicente Padres, on the other hand, copped the second semifinals slot in Group A after beating the Carcar Softball Selection, 4-3, in another nail-biter.

In the other games, the Rebels Softball Club got back with a 3-2 win over Bern’s Ang, while Salazar College of Science and Institute of Technology (SC-SIT) solidified its leadership in Group A with a forfeiture win over Pau de Arco.

Hiroshi was headed to duplicate its 12-0 win last April 3 when Marlon Caberera and Leo Nacario scored a run behind a run batted in (RBI) to the leftfield by Carry White de la Cerna in the opening inning.

However, brothers Felix and Zardo Custodio evened the game for Fitrum in the second inning. Felix scored on Zardo’s RBI hit to the left, while Zardo ran three bases before scoring on an error by Hiroshi’s third baseman.

Hiroshi regained the lead, 4-2, in the fifth inning with Boy Unabia scoring a double RBI and sending de la Cerna and Alexis Rollon to the home plate. But that proved to be Hiroshi’s final run before suffering its second defeat after losing by forfeiture to the Rebels last May 12.

In the fifth, Fitrum scored four runs with Francis Desalogo, Allan Gabuya, Litlit Babatid and Jojie Babatid for a 6-4 lead, and shut down Hiroshi’s offense in the next two innings. RCM
