BIG NAMES. It is less than a month before the Cebu ICT 2005. It looks like it is going to be a well-attended event.

Most major information and communications technology (ICT) companies are main sponsors—from Microsoft, IBM, Oracle and Sun, to HP, DBP Data Center, Cisco and Tyco.

The president of the Indian software association Nasscom, Karin Karnik, will also be here. So are the President of the Philippines, Trade Secretary Juan Santos, Commissioner Ver Peña of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology and the president of the Gartner Group.

If you still haven’t done so, try to register as a delegate. If you are a member of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the other accredited implementing partners, like the Cebu Computer Society, Association of Computer Businesses of the Philippines, and the Cebu Software Association, you might still be able to get the early bird discount.

The event will be on June 22 to 24 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
You can register and check out the updates at www.cebuict2005.com.

PERSONALITIES WITH BLOGS. A few weeks ago, I wrote about the emergence of blogging, and how millions of people are starting to publish their thoughts on the Web. Not so long ago, there emerged a blog supposedly by former president Joseph Estrada, www.erap.ph. Of course, since it is his blog, you would find most of the posts favorable to him.

Another famous personality who is into blogging, in fact for three years now, is former King Sihanouk of Cambodia. His website is www.norodomsihanouk.info/.

King Sihanouk has been a major political figure on the Asian stage for over 50 years. He won independence for his country from France.

During the Vietnam war, he was ousted in a US-supported coup, and he also backed the Khmer Rouge before the murderous regime turned its back on him and arrested him.

He is now 82, a senior citizen without any official rule, and cancer stricken, but he continues to wield influence. His blog is read by over 1,000 people every day.

Another famous person who blogs is Bob Lutz, vice chairman of General Motors. His blog can be found at http://www.fastlane.gmblogs.com.

A popular singer, Jim Paredes of the Apo Hiking Society, has also been keeping a blog for years at . I am sure that there will be many more popular people who will start blogging.

CELL PHONE VIRUS. Over the last five weeks, I have received six MMS messages on my cell phone, which I am almost sure is caused by a virus. You should start to be wary of this.

The viruses are normally passed through MMS messages and Bluetooth, and mostly targeted at the Symbian operating system, which means mostly the phones from Sony Ericsson and Nokia.

I have received the following messages with these headers. If you receive them also, try to be careful: Symbian OS Update, Symbian Security Update, Norton Antivirus, Desktop Manager and Dr. Web. Unless you know how to protect yourself, be careful about opening MMS messages for now.
