Bloody war expected By Rommel C. Manlosa Sun.Star Staff Reporter
Two hard-hitting fighters, WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista and Mexican knockout artist Gilberto Bolanos, collide on June 11, 2005 at the air-conditioned Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
The fight is expected to surpass the excitement of all previous fights of the teenage ALA Boy with a fierce and bloody war being expected.
Between them, Bautista and Bolanos have a high percentage of KO wins.
The iron-fisted 27-year-old Bolanos boasts 10 wins by knockout with eight losses and a draw. While the youthful punching machine Bautista prides himself of stopping 11 of his 15 opponents. He has no defeat.
Difference
The glaring difference between the two warriors lies in the kind of opponents they have fought. On that matter, the Mexican fighter has an edge over the Candijay-Bohol native, Bautista.
Bolanos has fought more world-rated fighters with the likes of Rudy Dominguez, Jose Aguinaga, Norito Donaire and Johnny Gonzales.
“On the basis of his record, Bolanos is dangerous in the early rounds but so is Bautista, whose KO wins mostly came in three rounds. We will neutralize his power with our defense,” said Edito Villamor, the chief trainer of the ALA Gym.
Bolanos scored a TKO in the seventh round over Freddie Roach-trained Nabo champion Jaren Harutyunan and drew with formerly undefeated Rudy Dominguez of Mexico last year before winning over Harutyunan.
Early trip home
Promoter Sammy Gello-ani said the main event between Bautista and Bolanos will start at 9 p.m. to allow Boholano boxing fans an early trip back home.
Tickets are on sale at the USA boutiques in SM and Ayala and at the Life Prolong office at TPE Bldg. in Banilad. For Bohol fans, tickets are on sale at the Islands Souvenirs boutique at the Island City Mall and at the ALA Boxing Gym in Taloto in front of Mitsubishi Motors in Tagbilaran City.
Tickets are P500 for ringside, P300 for lower seats and P150 for general admission. Reservations can be made with Clarice or Leilani at 346-3489 or 0917-3253005.
