St. Jude to take on 5L’s in championship

St. Jude got a finals seat after defeating Angelus, 70-60, in the Seniors Division, while Sitio Lower Kawayan will also contend for the championship round after demolishing Sitio Upper Kawayan, 69-62, in the Juniors division of the Atan Guardo Basketball Tournament Thursday night at the Sambag I hardcourt.

St. Jude capitalized on its running game that ruined the defensive formation of Angelus, which had to catch up to as much 12 points halfway in the second half.

Jonathan and Jerry Guardo, who tallied 15 and 14 points, respectively, led St. Jude to an early upsurge after piloting a 15-3 rally to further bury Angelus.

The Guardos got the momentum back for St. Jude following three fastbreak conversions en route to the victory. St. Jude will face early final qualifier 5L’s Central in the championship.

In the Juniors Division, Sitio Lower Kawayan will battle Kabulihan in their own chamiopnship match tomorrow after winning over Sitio Upper Kawayan in a very physical bout.

Upper Kawayan’s Boy Grogard attempted for a breakaway after leading a 7-3 run but Lower Kamayan retaliated with two consecutive jumpers. Upper Kawayan will meet San Roque for third place.

Meanwhile, Sitio Lower Kawayan defeated Sitio Laguna, 59-48, which gave it the right to face Tangkongan in the championship of the Midget division, while Laguna will face Kabulihan in the battle for third.
