NBA Grapevine: The irresistible bet
By Homer D. Sayson

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan– The immortal Stevie Wonder cannot see. But on a special night at The Palace, some 22,076 pairs of eyes from the capacity crowd were all on him. And when he kissed the harmonice for a rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, something Wonder-ful touched every soul in the arena.

Accompanied by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Wonder also sang his new single “What’s the Fuss.” That song is part of Stevie’s soon to be released album “A Time for Love.” Paul McCartney is featured in the said album, with lyrics written by India Arie and with Busta Rhymes contributing.

Backstage before his performance, Stevie, a Detroit native, revealed his support for the Pistons. “I’m a little biased,” he told Susan Whitall of the Detroit News. “Hey, when I’m not Stevie Wonder, I’m a basketball fan.”

Besides playing beautiful music, Wonder has also been busy canoodling with the wife. His youngest son was born last May 13, on Wonder’s birthday. “Another Taurus,” he said proudly.

DELIVER ME FROM EVA II. While the Pistons were mauling the bejesus out of the Spurs, I kept moving around the arena looking for Tony Parker’s girlfriend, hot babe Eva Longoria of the Desperate Housewives fame.

I didn’t find her. Or maybe, she just didn’t want to be found.

Anyway, the Pistons just got a little more incentive to beat the Spurs because Eva just made a bet with ex-Pistons John Salley who is now one of the hosts of Fox TV’s Best Damn Sports Show Period.

“I have a bet with John Salley. If the Spurs lost, I would come on in a bikini. If the Spurs won, he’s coming on in a Speedo.”

All of a sudden I now want Detroit to win. Not because I want to see Eva with as little clothing as possible, but because I’m afraid that the sight of John Salley in a Speedo might hasten the coming of the apocalypse.
