Guv supports ICT sector
THE Cebu Provincial Government is actively participating in efforts to make Cebu a premier destination for information and communications technology (ICT) and IT-enabled services.
The Province, through Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, donated P1 million to help fund the three-day Conference and Exhibition for Business and ICT (Cebu ICT) 2005, which kicked off Wednesday at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the Cebu ICT 2005 for the celebration of the Cebu Business Month 2005.
In a statement, Garcia said the Province has been monitoring market trends and undertaking initiatives to meet anticipated demands of the industry, such as the demand for quality human resources. The Province is now encouraging vocational and university students to take up IT-related courses, among others.
“Cebu has what it takes to be a major ICT hub for Asia. Our ICT infrastructure is world class in every way: quality, cost and availability. (Proof of this) is the reinvestment in Cebu of the companies located in the Mactan Economic Zones 1 and 2,” she said. JBN
