PBA semifinals Game 3 today

AFTER the bringing the Gran Matador PBA Fiesta Cup best-of-five semifinals back to square one, the protagonists play for the lead anew in Game 3 today at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The opening game pits No.1 Talk ‘N Text Phone Pals versus the hard-fighting No.9 Shell Turbo Chargers, while the main game features the Red Bull Barakos against the San Miguel Beermen.

The Barakos and the Beermen are even at 1-all.

Top teams Talk ‘N Text and San Miguel drew first blood in their respective series but their lower-ranked foes fought back with fury to level the series at 1-all with victories in Game 2.

Red Bull tied its semifinal series after climbing back from a 21-point hole late in the third quarter to steal a 79-77 cliffhanger in Game 2 over the Beermen.

Standoff

The Turbo Chargers, on the other hand, brought their own series to a 1-1 standoff with a similarly gripping 94-92 Game 2 win against the Phone Pals.

And just for the record, two Cebuanos were mainly huge factors in tying both series as they starred for their respective squads.

Former Salazar Institute of Technology Skyblazer Jimwell Torion, a native of Argao, Cebu, played a big role for the Barakos’ Game 2 victory as he delivered the goods in crunchtime alongside fellow reserves Cyrus Baguio and Nelson Asaytono.

Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao, in fact, proclaimed that their reserves, particularly Torion, Baguio and Asaytono, made the big difference in Game 2 although import Earl Barron led the way for them in the scoring and rebounding department.

“Our bench delivered tonight in the most trying situation. It was like the Alaska game when Bryan Gahol made the winning three that got us here in the semis. I just couldn’t say enough for their effort,” said Guiao.

Shell’s former University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguar Roger Yap exploded for 18 markers and four assists in Shell’s Game 2 win over the Phone Pals. JSV
