Sisos, Lagman make finals in Copa netfest
By Glenn C. Michelean

Team Cebu City (TCC) campaigners Bernardine Niño Siso, Sally Mae Siso and Jacob Lagaman barged into the final round of the Copa De Manila National Junior Tennis Tournament after posting critical semifinal wins yesterday.

Niño Siso, the top-ranked Boys Under-12 player in the country, claimed his finals ticket after drubbing Pampanga’s Juan Ferrer, 6-2, 6-2, while sister Sally Mae earned hers via a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Clarice Patrimonio in the Girls U-12 semifinals.

Lagman secured his finals berth with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win over Manila’s Akiko De Guzman.

A couple of Team Cebu members, however, were not quite as lucky. University of the Visayas (UV) entry James Carl Cañete fell out of contention after enduring a loss to fellow UV netter Francis Largo in the U-16 Boys quarterfinals, and Cañete suffered the same fate in the next round, where he lost, 6-4, 6-7, 1-6, to Russell Arcilla of Manila.

The Sisos, both University of San Carlos South Campus elementary students who are backed by Nick Pepito and Osaka Iridology, and Lagman are set to take on separate foes today for the title of their respective divisions.

Niño Siso, who won the event’s U-10 title in 2002 and 2003, and the U-12 Boys title in 2004, will take on Manila’s Kyle Cordero today for a possible fourth straight Copa. Sally Mae will square off against Manila’s Regina Santiago, while Lagman will face Christian Canlas today.
